PATTERNS/FINGER GRIP
Why activities involving copying, comparing, matching, completing and mirroring patterns are important for children
Tasks that challenge children to copy, compare, match, complete or mirror patterns stimulate their observation skills and fine motor skills of their hands and fingers. They strengthen their attention and their ability to concentrate, compare, and identify similarities and differences, and help to enhance their patience and perseverance.

Worksheets and exercises in this collection
The activities in this collection encourage children to observe templates with patterns made up of elements that may differ in colour, shape, and other characteric. Children are then challenged to copy, compare, match, complete or mirror these patterns. In these tasks, they handle small objects, strengthening their control of small movements of the fingers and hands.
Tasks which involve several different aspects to pay attention to when selecting the appropriate elements for their patterns (colour, shape, spacing, orientation of the elements) require increased attention/concentration and help children to improve their visual discrimination skills along with their visual and short-term memory. Different tasks encourage the development of mental flexibility, adaptability, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, as children need to analyze and evaluate each element of the provided pattern in order to successfully complete the challenge.
