CONNECTING DOTS: LINES

This workbook helps children strengthen visual-motor integration and foundational graphomotor skills through structured dot-connecting activities. Children are asked to connect two or more dots positioned within a limited space, creating lines and patterns that require careful visual guidance and controlled hand movements.


As children connect the dots, they must continuously judge direction, distance, and spatial relationships while guiding their pencil toward the next target. This process supports the development of accurate pencil control, visual attention, and spatial awareness while encouraging efficient coordination between visual perception and motor actions.

How the Difficulty Progresses


The activities are arranged in a gradual sequence that allows children to build skills step by step. Difficulty increases in three ways:


  • The number of dots gradually increases, requiring children to plan and execute longer sequences of movements.

  • The distance between dots becomes greater, demanding more precise movement control and visual-motor accuracy.

  • The angles between dots become more challenging, requiring children to adjust movement direction more frequently and accurately.


This structured progression encourages the development of increasingly refined graphomotor skills while supporting sustained attention and motor planning.


Why These Activities Are Important


Connecting-dot activities provide valuable practice in coordinating visual information with hand movements. As children draw from one dot to another, they continuously monitor the emerging line, compare it with the location of the next target, and make small adjustments to maintain accuracy. This process strengthens visual-motor integration and fine motor control.
