GEOMETRIC SHAPES

This workbook helps children strengthen visual-motor integration and foundational graphomotor skills through structured shape-copying activities. Children carefully observe and reproduce geometric shapes of different sizes and levels of complexity, developing greater accuracy, control, and awareness of shape characteristics.


In addition to supporting graphomotor development, the activities help children build an understanding of shape constancy and size constancy—the ability to recognize and reproduce shapes accurately regardless of changes in size or presentation. These skills are important for later learning tasks that require visual discrimination, spatial organization, and accurate written work.

How the Difficulty Progresses


The activities are organized in a gradual sequence that supports the progressive development of visual-motor and graphomotor skills. Difficulty increases in three ways:


  • The shapes gradually become smaller, requiring greater precision and fine motor control.

  • The shapes become more complex, increasing the visual and motor demands of the copying task.

  • The overall task difficulty increases, requiring children to apply their developing skills with greater accuracy, attention, and independence.


This structured progression allows children to build confidence while steadily improving their ability to observe, process, and reproduce visual information.


Why These Activities Are Important


Copying activities are an effective way to develop visual-motor integration, as children must continuously coordinate what they see with how they move their hand. While copying a shape, children compare their drawing with the original model and make ongoing adjustments to improve accuracy and maintain the intended size and form.
